2 Steps to Register
Step 1 – Payment
Follow the link below ("Reserve Tickets") to pay for the total number of students you are registering (TEACHERS register for free). Once payment is received, student and teacher seats will be reserved. Student options include author or artist (artists choose between Sketch or Photography in the second step).
Once payment is confirmed, you’ll receive an email with a link to register each participant.
Step 2 – Complete Registration Form
Once payment is confirmed, you’ll receive an email with a LINK to register each participant, including teachers. This is where artists choose between Sketch or Photography. They cannot do both.
Registration is NOT complete until all information is submitted.
Refund Policy
All registrations are final—there are no refunds. Like a theater, the conference has a limited number of seats. Once seats are filled, there is no additional space for another student to work or eat. Because the event sells out each year, we cannot switch a registration from Author to Artist or Artist to Author. Each category fills quickly, and all seats will be assigned accordingly.
If a registered student cannot attend, they may send an alternate in the same grade and category (Author or Artist).
Teacher Registration
Teachers register for free. The long running success of this conference has always been our teachers. School/Districts are required to bring one teacher for every five students they register. Please note that teachers will not be working with their own students but will be assigned to a small group of

about eight students from various schools across
the state. We will provide a detailed schedule, tutorial videos in the Lubar Theater, lesson plans, strategies for the workshop model, and prior to the conference we will offer a live webinar to go over the day's details. (The webinar will also be recorded for your convenience.)

Unlock Creativity:
Join the Art of Writing Conference
for Young Authors and Artists Today
For over three decades the Art of Writing: Young Authors and Artists Conference has been a wellspring of inspiration, empowering more than 15,000 talented students within the embrace of the Milwaukee Art Museum. Students ranging from third to twelfth grade come together, united by their passion for creative expression.
Secure your spot TODAY for this year’s conference by following the links above.
Schools and districts are required to have one teacher accompany every group of five registered students. Teacher admission is complimentary.
Teachers will facilitate a small group of 8 students from a mix of all participating schools. Registration includes museum entry, refreshments, lunch, and the opportunity to be surrounded by and work with some of the most passionate young authors and artists in the area.
This year's Art of Writing Conference is undergoing a shift in response to feedback we've received. The conference now allows for more extensive exploration of the museum's art pieces and grants authors and artists additional time to refine their craft. Gone is the pressure of producing a finished piece within a single school day. What remains unwavering is the exceptional feedback participants receive from their group members. Furthermore, the cost of the conference for students has been reduced by more than 30%.
What will the day look like?
For our young authors, the day begins with a museum tour, seeking a piece that resonates with their soul. Using the workshop model to create their story, students receive invaluable feedback from their peers. Simultaneously, young artists embark on their own museum exploration, crafting their art in the mediums of drawing or photography for grades 6 through 12. Artists benefit from constructive input from peers and professionals.
Conference attendees will also receive a free pass to the museum, allowing students to return to the museum with their loved ones. This is a chance to explore the museum afresh and share the artworks that inspired their work.
Last year’s conference sold out in October, so register today and save your seat.
The conference is a partnership of the Kettle Moraine School District and the Milwaukee Art Museum.
